Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved a monthly stipend of Rs70,000 for agriculture interns as part of a broader strategy to modernize farming and engage youth in the sector.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting where the chief minister emphasized connecting young professionals with practical agricultural training. Under the “Apna Khet Apna Rozgar” program, selected interns will manage farms and implement modern farming techniques while gaining hands-on experience.
The provincial government also approved rooftop hydroponic farming projects for the first time, with pilot projects to begin in Lahore. Additionally, 10,000 diesel tube wells will be converted to solar energy to promote eco-friendly agriculture.
Authorities plan to distribute 28,000 super seeders by 2028 to reduce crop residue burning and environmental pollution. Phase IV of the CM Green Tractor Program was also approved, increasing subsidies up to Rs1.5 million for high-horsepower tractors.
Officials say these initiatives aim to create jobs, promote sustainability, and bring long-term growth to Punjab’s agriculture sector.
